TRACKSWe're doing 'tracks' because we all know the single is a dying breed etcetc but more importantly there's been too many blinding b-sides, albums tracks and free downloads to ignore by just judging singles. So anyway, here are some of the tunes that have soundtracked 09 so far.
The Horrors - Sea Within A Sea
(Surely the coolest song of the lot, a brooding 8 minutes taste of what was to come)
(Surely the coolest song of the lot, a brooding 8 minutes taste of what was to come)
Bombay Bicycle Club - Dust On The Ground
(The 2nd new single from the forthcoming debut, another breathtaker from these guys)
The Maccabees - No Kind Words
(The Maccabees go dark with this free download showcasing their new found depth)
Grammatics - Time Capsules & The Greater Truth
(B-side to 'Shadow Committee', this is a quiet one that hits you unexpectedly. Beautiful)
HEALTH - Die Slow
(HEALTH return with this new 7" and probably the best song they've ever written)
Video Nasties - Conversation Dies
(Epic album track that opens with 1 minute of piano before crashing into teen heartbreak)
Gallows - The Vulture (Acts I & II)
(Huge centrepiece from the new album, 1 part soft acoustic, the other visceral religion hating)
Passion Pit - The Reeling
(Lead single from the happiest album of the year so far. So perfectly upbeat it hurts)
The Veils - Larkspur
(Flawless Veils epic, blending the aching lyrics of "no rest for my heart" with grandiose)
The Chapman Family - Kids
(Angry, angry song. But it sounds so good. I have to see these guys soon. Thrilling)
Delphic - Counterpoint
(Giving Friendly Fires a run for their money in terms of soaring electronics, this is amazing)
Patrick Wolf - Hard Times
(Relevant 2nd single from Wolf's new album, and a little easier to get into than 'Vulture')
Bon Iver - Woods
(All the way from January, a beautiful b-side to 'Blood Bank', maybe his best song?)
The xx - Crystalised
(Spell-binding debut single that seriously hints at greatness. Roll on the album)
We Were Promised Jetpacks - Quiet Little Voices
(Huge song from the latest Scottish guitar band. Something very special about this)

Ok so that's my random 15 favourite tracks this year so far, but it will have changed 5 minutes after posting this I expect. Look out for the Remixes feature to come. Enjoy the sun xxcc
